Ayinla Emerges Ogun Correspondents Chapel Chairman

Business Day Newspaper, Assistant Editor, Razaq Ayinla on Wednesday emerged Chairman, Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State chapter.

Ayinla, who emerged unopposed having been certified, screened and duly cleared by the Election Committee in conjunction with the NUJ Transition Committee led by Mrs. Omolola Adeyinka was declared winner.

Also declared winner is Sulaiman Fasasi of Daily Independent newspaper as Secretary, while Ernest Nwokolo of the Nation Newspaper emerged as Treasurer of the Chapel.

However, in a joint statement signed and made available to newsmen by the NUJ Chairman, Mrs. Omolola Adeyinka, and Adewale Oluokun, Secretary respectively affirmed their emergence.

The statement read: “The purported Correspondent Chapel election having been truncated with an unconstitutional action of not following the Constitution of the NUJ, article 6, subsection 6 empowering the State Council to supervise the chapel elections which was vehemently and violently done by the outgoing chairman, Comrade Wale Adewumi and some members of the chapel.

“The state council rising from a meeting on the incident resolved as follows: that the electoral process has been cancelled. That the process failed to meet up with the check off due remittance to the council.

“Also, that the three candidates cleared by the state council, Mr. Razaq Ayinla (Chairman), Mr. Sulaiman Fasasi (Secretary) and Mr. Ernest Nwokolo (Treasurer) having been returned unopposed and returned elected should take over the affairs of the chapel with immediate effect.

“That all the property of the chapel with the Wale Adewumi led executives be handed over to the new leadership.

“We appeal to all members to cooperate with the new leadership in the interest of peace.”
