Atiku Alleges Breach of Private Bank Account Details After Unsolicited Campaign Donation

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that the confidentiality of his private banking information may have been compromised after an unsolicited payment was made into one of his personal bank accounts.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

According to the statement, an unidentified individual transferred money into the account with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” despite the fact that neither Atiku nor his campaign team requested, approved or had prior knowledge of the transaction.

The former vice president described the incident as alarming, noting that the affected account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available. He questioned how unknown persons gained access to such confidential banking information.

Atiku warned that if the private financial details of a former vice president and presidential candidate could be accessed, it raised serious concerns about the security of Nigerians’ personal financial information.

He further expressed suspicion that the account details may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access, warning that any unauthorised disclosure of confidential banking information would constitute a serious abuse of power.

According to him, such a breach could expose account holders to security risks, including kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, fraud and other criminal activities.

The ADC presidential candidate said security agencies and the general public had been alerted to the incident, describing it as one of several suspicious developments occurring ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he characterised as attempts to tarnish his image as political activities intensify, insisting that such tactics had failed in the past and would not succeed.

Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to offering what he described as credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges, maintaining that his focus remains on his vision for the country.
