Atiku Abubakar decries rising insecurity after Kebbi School attack, Zamfara killings

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep outrage over the rising wave of violence across the country, following the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

In a statement posted on his verified X account, Atiku said he was “devastated” by the killing of the school’s Vice-Principal and the abduction of several students by bandits. He described the incident as another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity confronting Nigeria.

The former Vice President also condemned the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and the mass abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where entire families, including women and children, were reportedly taken away by bandits.

“These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society,” Atiku said, adding that similar tragedies continue to unfold in Plateau, Benue and other states. He noted that residents in Shanono LGA of Kano are now fleeing their homes in fear, a development he said reflects a national security challenge that has reached “intolerable levels.”

Atiku called on the Federal Government to urgently review and strengthen the country’s security architecture, deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-led operations.

“Nigeria cannot continue on this path,” he warned. “Our citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace — nothing less.”
