Assassination Attempt: Defence Hqtrs Counters Kogi Govt. Claims

..says “Most Bandits Operate in Military Uniform”

The Defence Headquarters has reacted to a statement credited to the Kogi Government which alleged that an assassination attempt was made on the life of Governor Yahaya Bello at Kwali, near Abuja.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau, in a statement on Sunday said it could be a case of unknown persons dressed in military uniform.

The Army, in the statement exonerated its personnel pointing out that the Kogi state government did not in any way insinuate that the military was culpable in the assassination attempt.

He, therefore, urged everyone to be patient to allow the Police to carry out an investigation

He said, “Most bandits operate in military uniform. Kogi statement didn’t say military, so maybe we should allow investigation.

“I am sure police will constitute Investigation panel and if there is anything pointing to the military, I’m sure something will be done

“But for now, we should allow the police to do their own work.

“The man didn’t say military but that they used military uniform and we know people for whatever reason hoodlums always use military uniform to perpetrate their criminal activities so he didn’t implicate us in any way.”

The governor has since dismissed the rumours of the incident being an assassination attempt, insisting that there was no assassination attempt on his life as claimed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo.
