Army Captures Infamous IPOB Commander in Imo
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a key commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The suspect, identified as Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, also known as Gentle de Yahoo, was apprehended in his hideout at Aku-Ihube, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
His capture followed a joint raid carried out by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in partnership with other security agencies.
During the operation, soldiers recovered an English pistol, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, a cartridge, six mobile phones, police and military uniforms, and a German flag.
A workshop allegedly used for dismantling stolen vehicles was also discovered, while 10 motorcycles at the site were destroyed.
In simultaneous operations across other states, troops successfully rescued 12 kidnap victims. Five were freed in Madagali, Adamawa State; another five in Malumfashi, Katsina State; and two in Lokoja, Kogi State.
Meanwhile, in Borno State, the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, engaged fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The military reported that eight terrorists, including two Munzirs and one Qaid, were killed during a firefight near Garin Giwa along the Baga–Cross Kauwa supply route. Several others with gunshot wounds were also captured.
