Arms and ammunition recovered as Nigerian troops arrest prominent traditional ruler
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested the district head of Cha (Mue Ter Cha), H R H Chief Utambe Adzer for allegedly being in the possession of illegal weapons.
Military sources, reports that the soldiers stormed the palace of two traditional rulers in Ukum local government area of Benue state on Saturday, April 24, based on intelligence reports.
While Adzer was nabbed the second district head, Chief Teran Kwanghbo was said to have escaped through the backdoor of his palace when he learned that his colleague had been arrested.
According to Daily Trust, some arms and ammunition recovered during the raid on the monarch’s home include one Ak47 assault rifle, one mag, 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one locally made mortar tube, and one vehicle.
A local source who identified himself as Kajo confirmed that some soldiers were sighted at the palace of Mue Ter Cha.
The local source who identified himself as Kajo said that people of the area were surprised to see soldiers in the community who arrested their Chief. Brigadier General Clement Apere, the force commander of OPWS, declined to comment saying he couldn’t speak on operations yet to be concluded.
