Armed robbers stormed University of Uyo while students were reportedly reading at night in preparation for their forth-coming examination.

Acording to Premium Times, the student were robbed of their phones, laptops and money aroun 10:36 pm on Sunday, February 12.

While the robbery was going on in the night classrooms, another set of robbers allegedly attack students at Old Business Lecture Hall, at the annex campus of the university, still along Ikpa Road.

According to students report, most of the victims ran down to their hostels after the incident.

The student said: “The hostel door was already locked, but they had to open it for them.

“The girls looked distressed. They were crying. Their dresses were dusty.”

Students have since taken to the school Campus to protest what they called lack of security for lives and properties in the school environment.

Reports have it that on Monday morning, the students barricaded the school main gate preventing movements into and out of the school premises.

The school authority has however described it as ‘not a very ugly incident’ despite the loss of properties.

Godfrey Essien, the spokesperson of the University said: “This is a higher institution where you have different kinds of people. It is almost like a village with a 20,000 population. It’s a thing that normally happens in institutions like this.”

Essien said the university awaits a detailed report from internal security on what happened that night.

The University exam which was supposed to commenced today, Monday, has however been postponed till tomorrow.

The Uyo state police command is yet to make a statement on the incident.
