Armed men invade Abuja community, rob residents

Pandemonium broke out in the Giri community, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, on Thursday morning when about 50 armed men invaded the area, robbed the unsuspecting residents leaving one seriously injured.

NaijaBlitzNews.com reports that during the early morning invasion, the armed men took advantage of the panic created to rob unsuspecting residents of their valuables.

One of the residents who simply identified himself as Anthony said that the robbers invaded the community at about 1:00am in commercial buses and robbed several houses in the area.

“The robbers came in the early hours of Thursday and robbed residents of their valuables. They robbed almost all the houses around my area. We were so lucky our compound was spared’’, Anthony said.

Another eyewitness who identified herself simply as Mercy Echono said, the gunmen showed up in large numbers armed with bows, arrows and machetes, and robbed an undisclosed number of residents during the attack.

‘’They tied some residents who were trying to resist them up while others were removing valuables such as television, phones, laptops, money and other valuable items.

‘’To my utmost surprise, despite the army check point located close to our vicinity, no help came as they operated for a good three and half hours’’, she added.

Giri is the community where about four lecturers of the University of Abuja, and their children were abducted by bandits at the institution’s staff quarters in November 2021.
