Arewa Youth Backs Re-trial of Al-Mustapha

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) have declared their support for the re-opening of the case against Major Hamza Al-Mustapha over the alleged murder of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of late businessman and acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

In a statement by National President of AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Usman Shettima, said the outcome of Lagos appeal will settle the matter once and for all, stressing that “As the case stands now, the fate of the accused still hangs in the balance.”

Shettima said the final verdict would put the minds of all parties involved at rest as it would have been proven that justice had actually been done on the case.

AYCF President said a revisit of the case would put a final end to it, he noted that some unnamed persons were influencing some sections of the media to misrepresent the pronouncement of the courts.

It warned such persons to desist from doing so, complaining that the tones of reports of the apex court pronouncement in Abuja from some media platforms has given cause for concern.

The forum also accused some unnamed northern elites of allegedly collaborating with their southern counterparts to malign a party to the case with a view to keeping him out of circulation permanently for no just cause.

“If they continue with their diabolic tactics, the time to expose them is now.

“We are keenly watching body movement of individuals and group of people who might attempt to pervert the cause of justice,” the statement said adding that the Nigerian people now have utmost confidence in the judiciary.

“We at the AYCF also hope that justice will be properly done at the end of the day,” the statement said.
