APC swears-in 18 local government areas party chairmen
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sworn in the newly elected eighteen local government areas party chairmen that will pilot the affairs of the party at their respective councils for a period of four years.
The chairmen were elected during the local government council congress election held in May 2018 across the state.
The swearing-in ceremony of the party chairmen was performed by the state chairman of APC, Barr. Anslem Ojezua at the party secretariat on Monday in Benin City.
After taken the oath of office, Barr. Ojezua advised them to swear in the local government and ward executives of the party in their various councils.
He said: “We expect that when you get back home, you are going to swear in your own colleagues at the local government level, and also swear in at the ward level who will in turn go back to their ward and swear in their own executive, and even more important, they must constitute the units executive.
“It should not be an opportunity to settle scores, but an opportunity to appoint people with proven integrity and utility for the party with sole aim that on election day, they will constitute the lifeline of our great party in ensuring victory at all elections.
“It must be on the basis of utility, how useful and resourceful as well as how much efforts they have made to ensure that our party is successful, that is what will make you to be successful too.
“Edo State is the only state with no issue during the congresses held across the country by the party. This could not have been achieved without the visionary leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, whom we in Edo State is ready to donate to the national to reform and reposition the party.”
Furthermore, “As party chairmen, you no longer have a divided loyalty. Your loyalty is to the party constitution and to all members including those who helped you in the process.
“If you do justice, you will succeed, and if you do not, you will be part of the problem. Experience has it that there is no alternative to justice, as well as to the truth. You just have to summon the courage to say the truth and do justice to cause.
“We deliberately invited the council chairmen and our leaders in the party to be our witnesses. The reason being that without them, our chairmen cannot succeed. So whatever we tell them by extension, we are also having the responsibility to our leaders, who in anyway produce them to succeed.
“After every process of this nature, reconciliation must be your priority. And there is nobody in better position to assist in this regards than our leaders. It should be noted that this position, not everybody can be there.
“Today, it is you, tomorrow, who knows who will be there. It should not be a do or die affairs. I am using this opportunity to congratulate you all, but the job is not easy,” Ojezua concluded.
