APC slams PDP factional Chairman Turaki over call for foreign intervention
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticized Tanimu Turaki, the newly declared factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his call for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
Turaki, who addressed journalists earlier today amid escalating tensions within the PDP, alleged that Nigeria was facing a “Christian genocide” and claimed that democracy in the country was under threat. He urged the international community to intervene—remarks the APC has described as “reckless and unpatriotic.”
In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said Turaki displayed desperation and a lack of leadership capacity just 72 hours after assuming his position through a factional declaration.
According to the APC, Nigerians expected Turaki to prioritize peace-building efforts within his crisis-ridden party. Instead, they argue, his first major public action was to call for foreign interference—an act the APC says poses a “dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty.”
The ruling party contrasted Turaki’s comments with the PDP’s previous 16 years in power, noting that despite what it called the former ruling party’s “ruthless subversion of opposition,” no party leader had ever solicited foreign invasion over internal political disputes. APC officials framed Turaki’s statement as both an admission of the PDP’s internal collapse and “a final certification of the party’s demise.”
The APC urged the international community to dismiss the appeal, describing it as a “pitiful distraction” from the opposition party’s internal disarray. The statement further accused opposition leaders of escalating desperation and plotting to involve foreign actors to advance what the APC termed “a sinister political agenda.”
Reaffirming its confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the APC called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting the government’s ongoing efforts toward national progress and prosperity.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, CON, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress.
