APC Senators shelve impeachment plan against Saraki, focus on national issues

The National Assembly in Nigeria says it will continue to remain focused on national issues not the personal interest of members.

Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan stated this on Friday while speaking to State House Correspondents, after observing the Jumma’at prayer at the Aso Rock mosque.

Senator Lawan said contrary to the expectations of many Nigerians, the National Assembly would have been in crisis on resumption of plenary on Tuesday but members decided to attend to national issues that were in need of urgent attention.

“The National Assembly will continue to remain focused on national issues. We must be patriotic, we must be nationalistic and we must put the national interest above individual and parochial or partisan interest.

“We definitely had to bury our hatchets for us to work for Nigeria and Nigerians therefore perhaps that might have informed the disappointment of many people that there is no crisis in the National Assembly,” he said.

He further said disagreements are usual and practical components of any parliament, where you have views that differ.

The governing party, the All Progressives Congress had advised the President of the senate and the Speaker, House of Representatives, to resign their positions, having defected to the main opposition party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
