APC Governors Endorse Ganduje’s Resignation
Reaffirm Commitment to Reforms and National Progress
Twenty-three governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their weight behind the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing it as a positive step in the party’s ongoing reform and institutional evolution.
This position was outlined in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day strategic retreat held in Benin City, Edo State, and hosted by Governor Monday Okpebholo. Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu was represented by his deputy, Hon. Idris Gobir-Danchadi.
Delivering the communiqué, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, stated that Ganduje’s resignation aligns with the APC’s internal restructuring and growth as a progressive political force.
“The PGF acknowledges Dr. Ganduje’s voluntary resignation as part of the APC’s continuous evolution and commitment to democratic values,” Uzodinma said.
The governors reaffirmed their collective dedication to building a united and prosperous Nigeria through deep reforms, institutional strengthening, and socio-economic development across all tiers of government.
They reiterated full support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pointing to enhanced federal-state collaboration on critical national priorities, including fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, energy transition, food security, and revitalization of health and education sectors.
The forum applauded the increase in fiscal allocations to states, growing investor confidence, and the adoption of digital tools and transparent procurement systems that are improving governance across APC-controlled states.
“We aim to drive transformation from the grassroots by fostering innovation at the state level and reinforcing synergy among government institutions,” the communiqué stated.
On national security, the governors commended security forces for their ongoing sacrifices and successes in the fight against insecurity. They reiterated support for community policing, enhanced intelligence gathering, and better coordination among security agencies.
They further called for more investment in surveillance technology and improved welfare for security personnel, while extending condolences to victims of violent attacks, particularly in Benue and Niger States. The forum also praised President Tinubu’s swift response to the recent crisis in Benue.
Reviewing Nigeria’s current economic direction, the PGF expressed support for major macroeconomic reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate harmonization, and debt optimization. While acknowledging early signs of recovery, they emphasized the importance of ensuring economic growth benefits all Nigerians.
They advocated for stronger support for food production, small businesses, job creation, poverty reduction, and expanded social safety programs, stressing that inclusive growth must be the foundation of national development.
The governors pledged to intensify efforts toward economic decentralization, in line with constitutional mandates that place citizens’ welfare at the heart of governance.
The meeting also celebrated the recent defection of high-profile political figures—including governors and lawmakers—to the APC, which they described as a reflection of growing confidence in the party’s leadership and direction.
A significant moment during the meeting was the formal reception of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who were welcomed into the APC fold.
In conclusion, the PGF called on Nigerians at home and abroad to rally behind President Tinubu and lend their support to the reform agenda aimed at creating a more secure, inclusive, and prosperous future for the country.
