ANAMBRA: TWO ELECTIONS, SAME DAY
As the Anambra State was agog with preparations for the end-of-tenure Governorship election scheduled for November 18, 2017 the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has approved the conduct of a State Constituency bye-election in Idemili North.
The two elections would hold the same day, to maximize resource utilization and ensure timely representation of the constituency in the State House of Assembly.
In a Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Idemili North state constituency bye–election released by INEC, the Commission indicated that Political Parties wishing to field candidates for the exercise are required to conclude their primaries latest by October 31, while campaign closes on November 16, 2017.
The Commission had earlier explained that where two elections are taken together, additional ballot box would be added in the affected constituency to accommodate the ballots for the additional election.
In the case of the Idemili North; voters in the constituency would experience two elections hence two ballot boxes; one for the Governorship election, another one for the State Assembly Election, while Results for the two elections would be declared at respective constituency levels.
