Anambra fire a setback to our preparation – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has disclosed that a total of 4, 694 of the smart card readers were destroyed by fire which occurred at its office in Anambra.

The Commission made the disclosure on Tuesday night in a statement issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voters Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

“While this is, no doubt, a setback to our preparation for the smooth conduct of the election in Anambra State, the commission has taken immediate measures to ameliorate the situation, by mopping up some of the spare Card Readers from other State to deploy to Anambra State”.

According to Okoye; with the steps so far taken ” the commission remains confident that the election in the state will proceed as scheduled”
