Ambode Votes, Urges Lagosians To Elect Credible Leaders At Local Government Level

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state on Saturday urged Lagosians to come out and elect credible leaders in the 57 local councils in the state in order to complement the efforts of the state government at the grassroots.

The governor stated this after casting his vote at Ward A6, polling unit 003 located within Ogunmode Junior College Epe at exactly 9:45 am alongside a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Lanre Razak also said he is impressed with the security reports he has received across the state.

According to Ambode “ I am happy that so far, so good reports from everywhere says that it’s been peaccful so far. I voted here in 2015, I am back here again and I expect that the result will also be good just the way it went two years ago”.

“Reports so far say that security is good. So, I just urge people to come outside and exercise their franchise and voting rights. What is important to us is for us to be able to conduct a free, fair and credible election”.
“Local government election has not taken place in Lagos in the last five years so, we are happy that we are able to do this and also enhance democratic values that we are trying to build up in this country. That is what this is all about”.

To those who are yet to exercise their civic responsibilities, the governor urged them to do so now saying they will have nobody to blame if politicians who are not credible gets elected at the council level.

“I am out here and reports indicate that everywhere is peaceful. The whole thing is for people to able to carry out their civic obligations. You cannot stay back and just expect things to work well”.

“ Yes, we have tried at the state level but we also need to put credible people at the local government level because that is the nearest government to our people”.

“All that we have been advocating is participatory governance. If you don’t take part, you will not just be part of what is coming out”.

“The whole essence is for you to choose people who will really touch your needs. If you sit down at home and anybody that is not credible gets there, it will not be their fault if they give you bad results and that is what we don’t want” he said.

Also speaking with Independent, Kamal Bayewu, a chieftain of the APC and former chairman of Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government said the exercise has been peaceful in the area while security arrangement is also commendable.

He however said people are yet to vote due to the heavy rain that began which delayed the LASIEC officials from commencing their tasks.
