Ali Ndume dismisses claim Tinubu will declare himself winner of 2027 election
Senator Ali Ndume, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would declare himself winner of the 2027 presidential election.
Ndume’s reaction followed speculation circulating online that the President might bypass the electoral process to announce himself victorious. The senator addressed the issue in a video shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of ARISE News on January 28, 2026.
In the video, Ndume described the claim as unfounded, stressing that President Tinubu is an experienced politician who understands the dynamics of electoral contests.
“I don’t think Mr President will think about that,” Ndume said. “Mr President, as a politician and as someone who has gone through it all, is strategizing to win the election and not to declare himself as the winner. No, that won’t work.”
He added that Tinubu’s political background and long involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process make it unlikely that he would attempt such an approach.
Ndume’s comments come amid heightened political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and political actors begin early positioning and debates over the conduct and outcome of the polls.
