Akume: Nigeria’s Problems Pre-Date Tinubu, Reforms Underway

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, on Sunday said the challenges confronting Nigeria did not start with the current administration.

Speaking at a special service to mark the country’s 65th Independence anniversary at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Akume said President Bola Tinubu has initiated reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, to address long-standing issues.

He urged Nigerians to support the administration and contribute to national development. “Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria we deserve,” he said.

Akume also stressed the need for cooperation among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, adding that Independence Day should serve as both a celebration of freedom and a moment to honour the nation’s founding fathers.
