Akpabio Leads Nigeria’s Delegation To 153rd IPU Assembly In Tanzania

President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania.

The international parliamentary gathering, which commenced on October 4 and runs until October 9, 2026, is bringing together lawmakers from different countries to deliberate on issues affecting democratic governance, inclusive development and community empowerment.

Themed “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all,” the assembly is focused on strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions, promoting inclusive governance and expanding opportunities for communities.

Akpabio’s participation places Nigeria among the countries engaging in high-level parliamentary diplomacy at the global forum, where lawmakers are expected to exchange experiences and perspectives on governance and development.

The Nigerian delegation is also expected to use the gathering to deepen parliamentary partnerships, present Nigeria’s position on issues of international and developmental importance, and pursue areas of cooperation that align with the country’s national interests.

The IPU Assembly provides a platform for parliamentarians to discuss common challenges, share legislative experiences and explore ways of strengthening cooperation among national parliaments.

Nigeria’s participation is therefore expected to contribute to broader discussions on democratic institutions, inclusive development and opportunities for communities at the international level.
