AIG Iliyasu Identifies Adequate Security As Yardstick To Boost Social, Economy Activities

Assistant Inspector-General of Police In-Charge of Zone Two, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu has admitted that economy and social activities in Nigeria can be guaranteed, only with adequate security of lives and property of the citizens.
The AIG zone comprises of Lagos and Ogun States respectively expressed this at the palace of Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV on Tuesday when he paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The AIG Iliyasu, who was on a familiarisation visit to the state had initially visited the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at Oke Mosan alongside the state Command Police Commissioner, Kenneth Ebrimson and other management team from Lagos and Ogun States.
AIG Iliyasu, ex-Commissioner of Police in Ogun hereby used the occasion to roll out vision and mission statements of the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in combating crime and other forms of criminalities across the country.
He said: “The IGP Mohammed Adamu vision is to turn around police through a new policing of technology whereby technology will be deployed to fight and intercept criminals in Nigeria.
“The policy is to change the values, customs and ethics of policing in line with the 21st century of modern policing, that will bring about respect to human rights and rule of law, by adopting intelligence policing and community strategies through the welfare and training of the officers.”
Speaking further on his mission to the state, he said: “My mission here is to meet with the state government and interface with them and made a statement of my mission and the new trust of my boss, the Inspector General of Police.
“This trust is to turn around the police in his vision and mission of changing policing environment into a modern traditional policing, a new policing technology. The technical aspect will be deployed in fighting and intercepting criminals.
“IGP vision and mission is to change the values, customs and ethics of policing in line with 21st century of modern policing, respect to human rights, rule of law, intelligence policing, community strategies, welfare, training and capacity building of the men.”
“When I was in Ogun State as CP, we have a good period and we did a lot with the good support of the traditional institution. We have a very good time together. Ogun State is an example of a very peaceful state in the country and up till now, it is still being sustained.
“I am calling on Nigerians to assist the force in securing the internal national security. The residents of the state should support the new CP Kenneth Ebrimson in combating crimes and criminality in the state.
“Therefore, I wish to call on stakeholders, the press, traditional rulers, civil and liberty organizations to put our hands together in this new trust of national security strategy. Policing is not only meant for police, but for everybody.
“With this community strategy, I call on all stakeholders, hunters, farmers, professionals, students, market women to put hands together to so that we can secure the internal security of this country, which is very important to us.”
However, in his response, Oba Gbadebo hereby commended the zonal boss for his dogmatic approach in fighting crime, while urging Nigerians to support the police, adding that without the people, the police cannot perform effectively.
