African Swine Fever: Osun Commissioner Commends Redisse Project Intervention

Hon Adedayo Adewole, the Osun State Commissioner For Agriculture and Food Security has commended the effort of Redisse Project, the World Bank Assisted Animal Health program that caters for health emergency in the state.
Adewole while giving this commendation at the flag-off of the intervention in Osogbo further lauded the initiative of both the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the State Department of Veterinary Services for their collaborative and quick response to the recent outbreak of African swine fever, by providing some disinfectants for farm use to the Association of Pig Farmers in the state in order to prevent and control it in Osun.
The Commissioner, who was represented by Director of Veterinary Services in the Ministry, Dr. (Mrs) Abosede Olatokun stressed that the virus caused a severe ailment in domestic pigs which is incurable and could result to death of virtually all the pigs that were infected.
Hence, the reason why the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is presenting the disinfectant to fumigate pig farms and motorized sprayer with boot and overall to prevent and control the virus among pig farming businesses in the state.
Speaking earlier at the flag-off ceremony, the Federal Epidemiology Officer, Dr. Bisong gave kudos to the state ministry of agriculture and the director of veterinary services for their efforts and measures put in place to curb the spread of the fever in the state.
He therefore urged the association to continue to support the ministry and the federal ministry of agriculture.
In his vote of thanks, Chairman, Association of Pig Farmers in the state, Rev. Michael Adebomi appreciated both the state and federal ministry of agriculture for their efforts and support for farmers in the state.
Highlight of the event was the demonstration exercise of the motorised sprayers.
