Adesanya-Davies hails Senator Remi Tinubu on conferment of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua title

In a major cultural and political development, former presidential candidate and United Nations POLAC Peace Ambassador, Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her conferment with the highly esteemed traditional title “Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua” by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

The conferment, which took place in Ile-Ife, comes as a significant recognition within the Yoruba cultural world. The title is one of the most distinguished honours accorded to women across the Oodua kingdom and was previously held by the late Chief (Mrs.) HID Awolowo, revered matriarch of the Awolowo political dynasty.

A Historic Recognition

Prof. Adesanya-Davies described the title as a “historic and well-deserved honour,” noting that the First Lady has demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service throughout her decades-long career in politics, humanitarian work, and religious service.

“Senator Remi Tinubu’s conferment as Yeye Asiwaju is not only symbolic but profoundly meaningful,” she said. “It reflects her long-standing dedication to empowering women and youth, her passion for uplifting the vulnerable, and her remarkable contributions to national development.”

Adesanya-Davies, who is also a Princess of Ira in Kwara State, emphasized the importance of the recognition within the Yoruba socio-cultural hierarchy, underscoring that it reaffirms the First Lady’s influence as a leading light for millions within and beyond the Southwest.

Celebrating Leadership and Service

Highlighting Senator Tinubu’s extensive contributions, the former presidential candidate noted that her leadership—whether as a senator for three consecutive terms or now as First Lady—has consistently been marked by integrity, compassion, and a commitment to transformative change.

“Her legacy continues to inspire countless individuals,” she said. “From legislative reforms to social advocacy and community engagement, she has remained a voice of strength and a pillar of hope.”

Adesanya-Davies also commended Senator Tinubu’s work within the religious sphere, describing her as “a pastor, wife, mother, and woman of valour whose life reflects discipline, humility, and grace.”

Commendation to the Ooni of Ife

In the statement, Prof. Adesanya-Davies expressed appreciation to the Ooni of Ife, praising his leadership in preserving Yoruba traditions and honouring distinguished personalities who have made exceptional contributions to society.

She noted that the honour bestowed by Oba Ogunwusi demonstrates the monarch’s commitment to recognising individuals whose work aligns with the values of service, unity, and cultural advancement.

“This title is a fitting tribute to Senator Tinubu’s selfless service and her tireless dedication to uplifting communities across the country,” she said. “It serves as a reminder that greatness is achieved through service, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to humanity.”

A Prayer for the Future

Looking ahead, Prof. Adesanya-Davies offered prayers for the First Lady, expressing hope that the conferment would further strengthen her resolve and expand her impact.

“May this new honour propel her to greater heights,” she said. “May her life continue to be a source of pride to Nigeria and an inspiration to women, youth, and families across the world.”

Official Endorsement

The statement was formally issued and signed by Iquo Halo Eton, Special Assistant and Public Relations Officer to H.E. Bishop Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, who serves as the United Nations POLAC Peace Consul and Secretary General, Board of Trustees, UN-POLAC.

The message concluded with a prayerful affirmation: “May her work continue to shine brightly, in Jesus’ mighty and precious name. Amen.”
