Adesanya-Davies Commends Tinubu’s Plan to Dialogue over Trump’s Plan to Invade Nigeria

Former female presidential candidate, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s timely decision to initiate diplomatic talks with the United States government following reports of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement about taking drastic action concerning Nigeria’s internal and international affairs.

Adesanya-Davies described the move as “a wise, mature, and peace-driven decision”, emphasizing that dialogue remains the most effective instrument in global diplomacy. She noted that Nigeria, as Africa’s most populous nation and a key regional power, must always maintain open communication and mutual respect in its foreign relations—especially with superpowers such as the United States.

“The President’s readiness to engage the U.S. administration through peaceful dialogue demonstrates political wisdom and foresight,” Adesanya-Davies stated. “In this tense period of global uncertainty, diplomacy should be the first and most vital response, not confrontation. We must protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and people through calm reasoning, truth, and international cooperation.”

The respected academic and cleric further acknowledged President Trump’s global influence, recognizing that his statements often carry significant diplomatic weight. She urged both nations to approach the situation with mutual respect and understanding, prioritizing peace, democracy, and human rights.

Adesanya-Davies emphasized that Nigeria’s leadership must continue to project confidence while avoiding panic or rash reactions. She encouraged President Tinubu to leverage Nigeria’s historical ties with the United States and to use the upcoming discussions to strengthen bilateral relations on trade, security, and humanitarian cooperation.

“This is not the time for fear or hostility,” she added. “It is the time to prove that Nigeria is governed by wise, courageous, and peace-loving leaders who understand the value of dialogue in preventing conflict. I commend President Tinubu for taking the right step at the right time.”

She also called upon the Nigerian public, faith leaders, and political stakeholders to support the President’s diplomatic initiative and to pray for divine wisdom and peace to prevail in all international engagements.

“Let every Nigerian lift our nation in prayer. God rules in the affairs of men, and His hand will continue to preserve our country from war and destruction,” Adesanya-Davies concluded.
