ADC, PDP Filled with “Kwashiorkor Politicians” – Governor Otu Criticizes Opposition
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling it a group of “kwashiorkor politicians” whose main goal is to derail genuine development efforts.
Speaking in Calabar on Tuesday during a meeting with ex-members of the Bakassi Defence Force who pledged support for his 2027 re-election campaign, Otu warned against political movements he says are regressive.
“We’re hearing that some undernourished political elements are trying to hijack power through the ADC. These are mere distractors. They offer nothing constructive and cannot take us back to the past,” the governor stated.
Otu also lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as another ineffective opposition bloc incapable of delivering meaningful progress.
“I’ve been in opposition before—I can recognize when a group exists solely to mislead. These are the same individuals who brought untold suffering to Nigerians. They won’t succeed,” he asserted.
Despite his sharp criticism, Governor Otu reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, emphasizing that his government would uphold political freedoms and respect for dissent.
“This is a democracy. Everyone has the right to speak, assemble, and organize politically. We won’t suppress any voice,” he concluded.
