ADC governorship candidate in Niger donates fire fighting equipment to Kure Market

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Niger state, Dr Mani Ibrahim Ahmed, has donated fire fighting equipment to the management of Abdulkadir Kure Ultra Modern market in Minna, Daily Trust report.
Part of the Ultra modern market was recently razed by fire with about 70 shops and property worth millions of naira lost.
There were also similar fire incidents in the market in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and February 2018.
Dr Mani said the gesture was aimed at forestalling incessant fire incidents in the market.
He said most of the fire incidents the world over were man made, adding that the absence of basic fire fighting equipment often led to spread of what started like a small accident, thereby resulting in loss of lives and property running into millions.
He spoke of the need for the market’s management, in collaboration with the leadership of all the 25 local government areas in the state as well as the state government, to ensure availability of fire fighting equipment in all the markets across the state.
He also advocated the need for training of traders in basic fire fighting drills in order to prepare them in the case of any eventuality.
He also called on the market management to ensure that traders take advantage of many insurance facilities in the country by ensuing that they insure their goods so that in the event of such disaster they could be compensated.
In his remarks, the market supervisor, Alhaji Ado Garba commended the governorship candidate for commiserating with the traders over the loss, while also thanking him for the donations.
Also, the Secretary General of the Market Union, Zubairu Mohammed commended Dr Mani for coming up with the idea of fire equipment, adding that the initiative was worthy of emulation by all. DAILY TRUST
