Abuja Residents Repel Terrorists Armed With Guns, Machetes
Residents of Jikwoyi and Kugbo areas in Abuja successfully repelled a group of suspected terrorists who invaded their neighbourhood armed with guns and machetes on Sunday evening.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the residential streets, causing panic among locals. However, in a swift and collective response, residents mobilised themselves, confronting the intruders and eventually outnumbering them. The unexpected resistance forced the attackers to retreat without causing any fatalities.
One resident, who witnessed the incident firsthand, described the experience as deeply unsettling, noting that her hands were still shaking as she recounted the घटना. She said it was frightening to experience such violence in person after previously only hearing about similar attacks in the news.
Despite the successful defence, fear and tension remain high within the community. Many residents have expressed concern that the attackers could regroup and return, prompting families to stay vigilant and maintain watch over their surroundings.
The incident has also reignited concerns about the response time of security forces in parts of the city. Several locals questioned how quickly authorities can intervene during emergencies, calling for improved security presence in residential areas.
This reflects a broader trend across Nigeria, where communities increasingly organise local defence efforts in response to ongoing security challenges. For now, residents in Jikwoyi and Kugbo remain on high alert as they await further updates and reassurance from authorities.
