Aboribo, Ughoje shine at OGR captains’ inaugural golf tourney

Playing on a familiar golf course terrain on Saturday, Kelvin Aboribo and Ufoma Ughoje raised the tempo of their game to win the Ogunu Golf Resort (OGR) Captains’ Inaugural Golf Tournament held at the golf course, Warri, Delta State.
Aboribo (hcp.6), was simply amazing on the course after 18 holes tournament when he played 69 net beyond everyone expectation to win the men’s hcp 1-12 category one, thus won for himself a giant LCD television and trophy for his explicit.
Sunny Okuns (hcp. 5) beat K. Yaya (hcp.10) on count back to place second having both played 73 net, while Chris Oburie (hcp.9) clinched the fourth place. The best gross trophy was won by Agbroko Oghogho with 75 gross.
Furthermore, the men’s hcp 13- 28 category two trophy was lifted by Ihiabe Danjuma (hcp.15) who played a net score of 70, as Joe Jakpa (hcp.15), recorded 74 net to land in second position, while P. Roberto with 76 net was ahead of Tony Ovie-Whisky, 77 net for the third position battle.
Moreover, Ufoma Ughoje from OGR with a net score of 68 won the ladies category, while lady captain of the club, Ochuko Orogun (hcp.26) placed second with 73 net, as lady captain of UBTH golf club, Benin-City, Sandra Emina (hcp.17), placed third with 75 net.
The guests men trophy with a net score of 75 went to John Okojie (hcp 5) from Sapele Athletic golf club. Also, Monday Ikhuregbe (hcp 13) of BCGS won the men’s veteran cadre with 76 net. Other winners are S. Ejenauno won the nearest the pin just as Uche Nwor and Orogun won the longest drive men’s and ladies respectively.
Speaking at the event, the club captain, Sam Dudu expressed satisfaction with the turnout and performances of all golfers at the tournament. He added that the tournament was a huge success while thanking the organisers for a organising a keenly contested event that attracted close to 150 golfers across the country.
He also thanked the ladies golfers that graced the tournament in honour of the lady captain and the club as well for exhibiting unity and love among themselves. “Its an eye opener for the club, particularly with the recognition of this club as part of LGAN. This is the first step among competitions we have in the club for the year 2019/2020 season.”
Meanwhile, the highlight of the event was the inauguration of the ladies division of the club as the fourth club within the zone by the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) South-south zonal vice president, Mrs. Juliet Monyei-Iyere.
In her speech, the vice-president tasked the pioneer lady captain of OGR, Orogun to motivate other ladies to play golf. “I want to really congratulate the lady captain of the club and the captain himself for supporting this event. This is the first ladies golf tournament to be played in this club. Also decided to be part of the LGAN. Golf is a game of life.
“Also, I want to encourage her to make sure that other ladies is this club play golf. It is an herculean task for her to ensure that wives and daughters of men golfers in the club are invited to play golf, so that the club can compete favourably with the likes of Benin club golf section, UBTH golf club, Bebib City as well as Ibori golf and country club, (IGCC) Asaba.”
