ABEOKUTA GOLF CLUB TO ESTABLiSH ACADEMY, CAPTAIN

The Abeokuta Golf Club has disclosed plan to establish a Golf Academy for youth,to curb social vices prevalent among them.
The President of the club,Venerabe Olukunmi Adekunle made the disclosure on Sunday while speaking with journalists,and also sought  for the assistance of the Ogun State government towards the establishment.
He noted that,it was a known fact that social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, insurgency, militancy, kidnapping among others are now order of the with youths.
Adekunle expressed optimism that, the establishment of the academy will shift the eyes of these youths from the crimes,hence,the need to see the project as a priority for the club and government.
He also urged the government to include golf in the budgetary allocation and encourage Golf in the extra-curricular activities of primary and secondary schools in the state.
The cleric turned golfer  said that youth and sports remain a veritable organs for sociology-economic development and political mobilization.
‎The captain emphasised that when youths engage in sports, they learn to be truthful, honest and skilful.
‎ “It is our desire to establish a Golf Academy for youths and promote Golf for health for all. We urge the government of Ogun State to include Golf in the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Sports Council and encourage Golf in the extra-curricular activities of primary and secondary schools in the state”,he said.
‎The Golf club boss added further that, an Amateur Golf Competition going to take place was to celebrate the 6th year anniversary of Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s administration.
‎He maintained that the competition is an avenue to support the Ogun Governor and showcase his achievements in the physical, industrial and recreational development of the state.
‎Adekunle argued that when the government encourages golfing, the nation becomes well-positioned for progress and development.
‎He stated that it was the responsibility of the club to utilize the organ as catalyst for the desired change in the society through discipline of integrity which golf is.
‎The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Afolabi Afuape, responding reiterated government promise to development of all types of sports at the grassroot
Afuape represented by the Director of Sports at the ministry, Mr. Adesola Faleti, reaffirmed government’s commitment at rebuilding youths through sports towards becoming better citizens of the state.
