Abejide Warns of Imminent ADC Coalition Collapse

Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro in Kogi State, has weighed in on the recent performance of the opposition coalition, expressing doubts about its future. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, Abejide said the coalition’s failure to secure even a single seat in the August 16 by-elections signals the beginning of its downfall.
According to him, the outcome of the by-elections is not just a defeat, but a major blow that could trigger the eventual collapse of the coalition. Abejide forecasted that by September, the alliance would completely disintegrate, citing internal dysfunction and strategic missteps.
He likened the situation to an attempted takeover, saying, “You can’t just come into someone’s house, hijack it, and expect the owner to sit back and do nothing — no matter how foolish you think he is.”
Referring to his role within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abejide declared himself the party’s “landlord,” emphasizing his long-standing loyalty and contribution to its growth. “I may not have founded the party, but I’ve kept it alive,” he stated. “I’ve never defected to a major party. I’ve used the ADC to win all my elections and even helped others get into the National and State Assemblies.”
Abejide believes the coalition’s inability to gain traction in recent elections is a reflection of deeper internal issues that will soon cause the entire movement to unravel.
