7 DIGs to retire as AIG Adamu Mohammed emerges new IGP
As Nigerians awaits the announcement of the new Inspector General of Police today, there are clear indications that seven Deputy Inspector General of Police may be asked to proceed on compulsory leave.
Although many of them have not reached retirement age, but the police tradition is that all DIGs would embark on compulsory retirement since they are all senior to Adamu.
The Police Service Commission is expected to soon release the names of the new DIGs.
The new DIGs are also expected to be picked from the cadre of Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police.
The presidency is expected to announce the appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).
A presidency source had earlier confirmed to NAN that President Muhammadu Buhari had zeroed in on the senior officer.
Recall that on June 21 2016, Buhari sacked DIGs when he named Idris as the IGP. He succeeded Solomon Arase who retired same day.
Mohammed had served as the Commissioner Of Police in Enugu State. He was one time director of peacekeeping operations of the Force.
Mohammed is also a directing staff member at the National Institute of policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.
He was born on November 9, 1961 and enlisted in the police in 1986.
Mohammed, who has a bachelor in geography, is married with children.
