2027: Tinubu May Assign Wike Campaign Role In Revised APC Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly considering assigning the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a prominent role in his 2027 presidential campaign structure, including coordinating mobilisation in Rivers State and the FCT.

According to a report by Arise News, citing sources familiar with the development, Wike is expected to remain a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The former Rivers State governor is not expected to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The report said the proposed arrangement is part of a revised APC Presidential Campaign Council structure being considered by the Tinubu campaign.

Also being considered for inclusion is the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who is reportedly being tipped to serve as one of the council’s spokespersons.

Under the proposed structure, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, designated Deputy Director-General (South), and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, designated Deputy Director-General (North), would retain distinct responsibilities within the campaign organisation.

The two principal officers of the National Assembly are reportedly not expected to operate under the direct supervision of Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the campaign council.

Yari is expected to oversee the day-to-day coordination of the presidential campaign, while Akpabio and Barau would have separate lines of responsibility within the broader campaign framework.

The reported arrangement is designed to accommodate the roles of influential political figures while assigning them specific areas of responsibility ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The details of the proposed revised campaign structure had not been formally announced by the APC or the Tinubu campaign council at the time of the report.
