2027 Polls: APC Has Enough Achievements to Tell Nigerians – Says Akpabio

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has enough achievements to present to Nigerians as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio stated this on Monday while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFUND and NELFUND, led by its Chairman, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had made significant progress since assuming office, particularly in the areas of the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy.

He said the Tinubu administration inherited an economy in difficult condition, claiming that 27 states were unable to pay salaries and pensions when the President assumed office, but that the situation had improved under his administration.

“The current President has done a lot for Nigerians. He met an economy in shambles. When he came in, 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions, but today, the story has changed because of his reengineering and thinking outside the box,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect Tinubu in 2027, saying the APC would have a lot to present to voters during the electioneering campaign.

“We will have something to tell Nigerians about the unprecedented achievements of Mr President at the campaign grounds,” he said.
Akpabio also criticised opposition parties, saying their members were aware of the achievements of the Tinubu administration but would not acknowledge them because of their political position.

He listed the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal reforms among areas where he said the government had recorded progress.

On the National Assembly, Akpabio said the 10th Senate had made “giant strides” under his leadership and would continue to collaborate with the Executive arm of government to deliver more benefits to Nigerians.

He also commended members of the committee for continuing with their legislative and oversight responsibilities during the Senate’s annual recess.

“We don’t need to listen to social media because it is garbage in, garbage out,” he said.

Akpabio further assured senators who may not return to the 11th Senate that their loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu would not go unrecognised, urging them to continue working for the success of the party and the administration.

Earlier, Senator Dandutse Mohammed said the committee was in Akwa Ibom to discharge its constitutional responsibilities and pay homage to the Senate President.

Mohammed commended the 10th Senate for enacting laws he said were benefiting Nigerians, particularly through the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

He said the committee was also in Akwa Ibom for sensitisation and oversight activities concerning TETFUND-funded infrastructure projects in the state.

“Education is key to the success of Nigeria,” Mohammed said, stressing the importance of the Senate’s legislative interventions in the education sector.
