2025: NANS Honors Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies for Contributions to Peace and Stability in Nigeria

NANS Gives Certificate of Credence to And Passed Vote of Confidence on Professor Okechuku Onuchukwu of IAUE

In Port Harcourt, Rivers State,  the National Association of Nigeria (NANS) Secretariat, Abuja has paid a courtesy call to pass a vote of confidence on  the Acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku for a great job well done in the institution over the years.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Secretariat equally honoured Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, a lecturer in the Department of English and Literary Studies of the institution, and the Country President of United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), for her contributions to promoting Peace and Stability in Nigeria. “She is our own mother…,” the Students from the NANS Secretariat said.

The official letter earlier on signed by the the Dist. Sen. Okunomo Henry Adewumi of NANS reads in part,  

“Dear Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, We want to inform you that The Senate Secretariat of NANS would be paying you a courtesy visit on Tuesday 18th February, 2024 at your University campus for your hard work, sincerity, contribution to advancement of serenity and harmony by creating an enabling University environment for all.

“The visit is a testament to our deep appreciation for your exemplary and unwavering commitment to the welfare of students. Your tireless efforts to create a conducive learning environment and your dedication to the advancement of education have not gone unnoticed. 

“We shall convene to pass a  vote of confidence on your leadership, in recognition of your strides in promoting academic excellence and students’ welfare. During our visit, we would like to take the opportunity to present to you a ‘Certificate of Credence’ in recognition of your outstanding contributions to the educational sector and your commitment to the well-being of staff and students. 

“We are confident that your leadership has had a profound impact on the lives of numerous students, and we believe it is fitting to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements. Please accept our sincerest appreciation for your unwavering commitment to education and your unrelenting support for students.”

While commending the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Okechuwu Onuchuwu on his successful running of the state of affairs of the institution in all fairness, the NANS Secretariat on their courtesy visit again seized the moment and used the opportunity to call on the Governor of Rivers and Visitor to the University, Gov. Siminalayi Fubara to please regulate the Appointment of the Vice Chancellor of IAUE, from the position of the Acting Vice Chancellor to Substantive V.C, and extend his tenure because of his active service and outstandingly remarkable and commendable performance.  

In her reply, Dr Ngozi Okiridu the PRO to the University said, the message shall be conveyed to the Governor, so as to do the needful.

Receiving the Award and giving the vote of thanks on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Professor Chibuzor Nwobueze the Sub-Dean of School Post Graduate Studies refers to Professor Okechuwu Onuchuwu as “The most humane Vice Chancellor in Nigeria,” while thanking the NANS Secretariat for the Award, Certificate of Credence and Vote of Confidence.

Congratulations to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku again and again. The event was attended by the by Seven members from NANS Secretariat, the Dean of Faculty of Humanities, the IAUE Senate representatives, student delegates and other members of the University community.
