Press Statement: 2025: Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies Celebrates Warriors on World Sickle Cell Day

Today, Wednesdays 18th June 2025, Ambassador Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, the esteemed UN POLAC Peace Consul and Secretary General of the Board of Trustees (BOT) at United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Center (UN POLAC), joins the global community in commemorating World Sickle Cell Day. This significant day is dedicated to caring for, as well as raising awareness about sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder that affects millions worldwide.
As a passionate advocate for healthcare and well-being, and the Chairperson on Board, Prof Mercy Ade-Davies Int’l Foundation (PMADIF), Prof Amb. Davies acknowledges the strength and resilience of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease. She commends the warriors who continue to inspire hope and push for better understanding, treatment, and care tagging them as ‘Conquerors’.
The special message from Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies further reads in part: “On this World Sickle Cell Day, I salute the courage, determination and fulfilments of those living with sickle cell disease. May the Almighty God continue to guide, protect, spare your lifes, specially take care of you, and heal you!”
“As we mark World Sickle Cell Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to supporting those affected by this condition. Sicklers like to be loved and not rejected, because it’s like the blood is already a signal of the earth’s rejection – So let us always show the warriors lots of love, kindness and consideration for health reasons as survivors and conquerors to the glory of God.”
Moreover, “By promoting awareness, advocating for research, and ensuring access to quality healthcare, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by sickle cell disease. Together, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment that empowers those living with sickle cell disease to thrive.
Finally, let us continue to work towards a future where everyone is educated about the ‘sickle cell genetic disorder’ and where everybody has access to the care and resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.
Wishing us all good health, long life and prosperity as we mark the day. God bless you!
