2019: Obanikoro regroups PDP elements to fight Tinubu over Lagos West Senatorial seat

As Senator Musiliu Obanikoro set to declare to run for senate of the Lagos West Senatorial District in 2019, it has been revealed that he is recruiting mostly PDP elements all over Lagos for his onslaught targeted at wresting Lagos West from the grip of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as a base to run for governor in 2023 after Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s second term.

Sources close to his campaign organization headquarters located at GRA, Ikeja revealed that  Obanikoro realizing Asiwaju Tinubu’s tacit support for the incumbent Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi which has led to all party structures in Lagos West endorsing Senator Adeola for Second term decided to recruit his former PDP supporters to fight Asiwaju by claiming to be fighting for an  ‘indigene agenda’ in Lagos West whereas  his target is to once again betray and attack Asiwaju as he did as Lagos Central Senator as a prelude to have a base in Lagos West where it is expected that the Lagos Governor for 2023 will zoned to.

“When Yayi declared to re-contest as Senator of Lagos West, Koro was reliably told that it is with the backing of Asiwaju but he told his supporters that it is not true. But he received the shock of his life when all the party structures in Lagos West separately and publicly endorsed Yayi for Second Term with the slogan “No Vacancy in Lagos West” the source added

 It was gathered that attempts to reach out to some of the noted Lagos West leaders including former chairman of the party, Chief Henry Ajomale, Alhaji Rabiu Oluwa, APC Lagos West Leader, Cardinal James Odumbaku, Senator Ganiyu Solomon (GOS) among others were rebuffed confirming that the party have totally committed themselves for the re-election of Senator Yayi as Lagos West Senator.

It will be recalled that so far over 350 Leaders of Lagos West, 186 APC Ward Chairmen of Lagos West, 28 Leaders of Councils of the 28 LGAs/LCDAs of Lagos West, 186 Councillors of Lagos West, 28 Chairmen of APC LGAs/LCDAs of Lagos West, Women Leaders from 28 LGAs/LCDAs of Lagos West as well as 25 Council Chairmen of Lagos West among other groups have separated endorsed Senator Adeola for Second Term over the last two weeks.

It was the above scenario that drove Obanikoro to strategise to confront Asiwaju with PDP elements that he is co-opting to masquerade as decampees so as to have a base for fight Asiwaju using the spurious agenda of indigeneship even when he has no house address in Lagos West having resided and contested elections all his life in Lagos Central.

Sources at the Koro Campaign Headquarters revealed that the plan is to use the PDP elements to destabilize APC and weaken the hold of Asiwaju in the largest senatorial district and for once end the era of referring to the largest federal constituency in Nigeria, Alimosho, located in Lagos West as “Tinubu’s Country”.

“We are sure that once Koro did not get APC ticket, he will immediately decamp back to PDP to continue where he stopped having only decamped to APC to seek soft landing for his EFCC case. That is why some of us that are original APC members in his camp are worried about his ambition which he has stated is a stepping stone to run for Governor in 2023.” the source stated.

The revelations of Koro’s real intention is giving leaders of APC from Lagos West some concern as they are against his cross carpeting from Lagos Central to Lagos West as well as his unreliability as a politician with his antecedent as a betrayer of the progressives in Nigeria. It was gather that is what is reinforcing their support for Senator Adeola who has been consistent in loyalty and a grassroots politician in Lagos West.
