2019: Former CBN Deputy Governor, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu declares for Presidential election
Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank, Professor Kingsley Moghalu on Wednesday declares his intention to run come 2019 presidential election.
Moghalu who made his intention know at a World press conference held at inside Shehu Musa Ya’adua conference centre, said it is time for a radical change in the political leadership of Nigeria.
” It is time for a visionary, competent and inclusive leadership that truly cares about our country.
“For a leadership equipped with the skills, intellect and competence to wage a decisive war against poverty and unemployment.
“It is time for a Nigeria in which our youth can fulfill their full potential and our daughters can aspire to any opportunity they desire. For a 21st century leader to lead us into a new and different future.
“We must stop recycling failed politicians and regenerate our leadership ranks with competent and experienced young men or women. Youth who have prepared themselves with the relevant qualifications must take over the mantle of leadership because this struggle is about the future of Nigeria, not its past.
“The battle to reorient Nigeria into a strong, capable country requires competence, capacity, and character. And as a citizen who aspires to be President I possess all three.
A visionary leader and globally-accomplished executive, Professor Moghalu has years of experience spanning academia, senior economic policy-making roles, the private sector, and the United Nations where he served for 17 years in five countries on four continents. He resigned his position at the UN and briefly set up his risk advisory firm Sogato Strategies in Geneva in January 2009, before he returned to Nigeria in November for his appointment as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Since he ended his Central Bank tenure in 2014, Moghalu has been a Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at the renowned Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA.
Moghalu has led a life of exemplary service both within and outside of Nigeria and sees running for president as an opportunity to not only challenge the status quo, but to capture and reorient what it truly means to be a participative citizen in Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.
A recipient of the Officer of the Order of the Niger, Professor Moghalu is a noted thought leader as a published author, keynote speaker, columnist, and commentator on global media, including CNN Television, BBC World TV, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, and the Financial Times. His professional career aside, Professor Moghalu is a known philanthropist. He started the Isaac Moghalu Foundation 12 years ago to work to develop community literacy, and to sponsor education for underprivileged children in rural communities.
More recently, as part of efforts to ensure an inclusive conversation on governance and leadership in Nigeria, Professor Moghalu has begun to extend the conversation to include ordinary Nigerians through various platforms on a variety of issues affecting the country.
Moghalu aims to change the way Nigerians view politics and policy as processes carried out in Abuja, disconnected from the people it most affects. Instead he believes Nigeria’s immense brain wealth—both at home and in the diaspora—is an unplumbed reservoir of solutions to many of the country’s ails. By “crowdsourcing” expertise and knowledge, a much reinvigorated and involved citizenry will be born.
