2019: DPP urges INEC to ensure strict implementation of electoral laws

The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure strict implementation of electoral laws for credible elections in 2019.
The National Chairman of the party, Mr Benson Garshon made the call on Monday at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja.
He said that INEC must not change the rules in the middle of the game stating that the umpire must insist on its position not to allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) field candidates in Zamfara.
Garshon said should INEC change its position, the party would not hesitate to take legal actions against the commission.
He said that the electoral umpire had so far done very well and must not soil its integrity ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Recalled that INEC had earlier stated that the APC would not be allowed to field candidates in Zamfara as the party did not conduct primary elections within the scheduled time.
APC, however, insisted that it conducted primaries and must be allowed to field candidates in the 2019 general elections.
Gorshon said that the electoral time table must be strictly followed, adding that all stakeholders must be consulted if any change must be made.
He, however, pleaded with the Federal Government to take the issue of insecurity more seriously as it was the primary responsibility of any government.
Garshon called on the Federal Government to use the remaining time of this administration to better the lives of Nigerians as there was suffering in the land.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the chairman urged media organisations to give equal opportunity to all political parties.
He said that the DPP’s manifesto was very clear and if given a chance in 2019, the party would run the government in line with its manifesto.
