1st S/West Para-Powerlifting Developmental Championship Holds in Ijebu Ode

All the six South-West States are anticipated to take part at the forthcoming maiden edition of South-West Para-Powerlifting Developmental Championship (SPDC) slated for Ogun State.

The states are Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and host, Ogun, and they will compete for honours at the developmental championship billed for Otunba Dipo Dina International stadium, Ijebu Ode from December 8th – 11th, 2019.

Chairman of the Ogun State Para-Powerlifting Association, Deacon Gbolahan Eweje, stated that the competition is aimed at discovering talents, that can be nurtured into national and international limelight in due season.

Eweje, who also doubles as the 2nd Vice President of the Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation noted that the competition was envisioned by the association to further developing the game of para-powerlifting across the region.

However, the Media Officer of the state association, Sanusi Lateef while responding on the total number of athletes expected at the four days event affirmed that they are expecting each state participating to come with twenty  athletes, comprising of ten male athletes, and ten female athletes respectively.

He stressed: “We are expecting twenty athletes from each state, that is ten male, and ten female athletes. In all, they should be one hundred and twenty athletes depending on the number each state is coming with. But, I am not sure of the exact figure, because you know some state may not come with up to the expected number of athletes.”
