THEARTER PRACTITIONERS HONOURS ABIOLA WITH STAGE COMMAND PERFORMANCE
Thearter practitioners across the South-West of Nigeria on Monday staged a drama play titled Oju Kelekun(farewell to reproach) to commemorate June 12 anniversary in honour of late Moshood Abiola.
The play which was the initiative of a veteran movie actor, Dele Odule paraded over 1,000 cast which held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta under watchful eyes of Abiola family, as well as host of other personalities in the society.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State led members of his cabinet to the Hubert Ogunde Thearter Hall, venue for the 5 hours production, which was directed by Bakare Rasaki,a renowned professor of thearter.
The play meant to revive stage thearter is a social attire that portrays the values and virtues of a well behaved person as against the nefarious and immoral attitudes of a notorious fellow.
The synopsis also chronicles a community’s situation beseiged by corruption,bad leadership,nepotism,insecurity and other social vices. A story of Nigeria yesterday,today and tommorow.
Speaking during an interview at the venue, the initiator,Dele Odule said, the play was staged to honour the late Abiola, as well as to revive the moribund stage command performance.
Odule who is also marking his 40th year in the thearter industry explained that,he has also used the project to engage some elders in the industry who hitherto might have been forgotten by many of the film producers.
He said, the stage command will continued to engaged elders in the industry and gave them ample opportunity for them to get themselves engaged and refresh their memory in the trade they practice even when many of the participants of the project were yet unborrn
