NUTGTWN Picket Company Over Casualisation

Members of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) have shut down the corporate head office of Royal Sacks Nigeria Limited, a manufacturer of sacks and bags, over alleged casualisation of workers.

Daily Trust report that national officers of the union led by second Deputy National President, Babatunde Yusuf, executives from all branches of the union in Lagos and the zonal areas stormed the company’s office at Samuel Olawepo Street off Ijokoro road in Ogun state to picket the company.

Not the presence of men of the Nigeria Police could stop the protesters who sang and danced to solidarity songs in support of workers of the company.

They accused the management of the company of enslaving the workers whom they said were neither issued appointment letter nor given identification card as workers of the company.

This, they say is against labour laws, noting that the union would resist the continuous subjecting of the workers to precarious work situation.

Some of the placards carried by the protesters read, “Royal Sacks, stop the illegality, respect workers’ rights; Royal Sacks, no to casualisation, allow unionization; among others.
