Governor Yahaya Bello (Former) – A True Definition Of “Pride Goes Before A Fall”

By Abdullahi Muh’d Shariffdeen

Early 2015, when the immediate past Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello came to contest for the Kogi gubernatorial election, he was known by none, and of course, no one believed he would be pronounced as the Governor.

As a matter of fact, neither him, nor any soothsayer knew that he would become the Governor, owing to the presence of the real Lion, Prince Abubakar Audu (of blessed memory), His Excellency Idris Ichala Wada, and other dignitaries.

Bello had no godfather, no connection, and enough monetary capacity. In fact, I can say he only came to create awareness for his ambition then, because it was obvious he wouldn’t win Audu or any of the opponents.
On the 21st of November, after the general election, we were all waiting for Audu to be declared as the Governor. Of course, he won the election. But destiny happened. He died mysteriously.

After several calculations within the APC’s camarilla, Yahaya Bello was selected to assume the position of the late Audu. Till this moment, that remains a mystery to us, but it was the will of God. Even Bello was astonished, because he never expected that.
After that, what happened?

Yahaya Bello was supposed to be the best Governor, owing to the fact that the most deserving and powerful Governor died mysteriously. It was a great lesson that God can do and undo, but alas! Bello got intoxicated on assuming the mantle of leadership.

He changed his name from “Fair plus” to “White Lion”. He began to pay quarter salaries – people who were supposed to receive 80K and 100K, started receiving 13,000 and 5,000 naira, respectively. He suddenly became a tyrant who was unapologetic. He maltreated our people.

He made so many people unemployed, most of whom do not have any other means of survival.
He behaved like a god, but today, he is now a subject of mockeries across the nation. A Lion is now hiding?

Truly, pride goes before a fall.
