Governor Okpebholo Rescues Victims of Benin–Auchi Highway Accident

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, came to the aid of over 10 victims involved in a serious road accident on the Benin–Auchi highway on Saturday, demonstrating swift and hands-on leadership.

The governor was traveling with his entourage to Irrua, in Esan Central Local Government Area, when he encountered a severe traffic jam shortly after the bypass. Sensing something was wrong, he stepped out to investigate.

At the scene, Governor Okpebholo found several accident victims in critical condition, with some bleeding heavily. Onlookers stood by, unable to help as the injured awaited emergency care.

Without hesitation, the governor ordered his security detail to use two Hilux patrol vehicles to transport the wounded to the nearest hospital. He personally oversaw the evacuation, helping to coordinate the safe transfer of the victims—including a woman with extensive injuries—into the emergency vehicles.

Witnesses said the accident occurred when a white Toyota Venza, bearing the registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW, was driving against traffic. The reckless maneuver triggered a collision with three commercial mini buses carrying passengers, leaving multiple people injured and causing a massive traffic gridlock.

Governor Okpebholo remained at the site until all the victims were safely transported under additional security escort to receive medical attention. Only after confirming their safety did he resume his journey to Irrua.

His prompt intervention earned widespread praise from commuters, residents, and passersby, many of whom commended the governor for his compassion and decisive response during a critical moment.
