A coalition group in Rivers State to stage a protest in Abuja for officers dismissal if no apology to FCT minister

A coalition of groups in Rivers State has demanded that the young naval officer apologize to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for using abusive language against him during a recent confrontation at a disputed land site in Abuja.

The groups thre@tened to stage a peaceful protest in Abuja calling for the officer’s dismissal if he fails to comply.

On November 11, 2025, a tense confrontation unfolded in Abuja between Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, FCT Administration officials, and Nigerian soldiers over a disputed piece of land.

The incident, captured in a widely circulated video, occurred amid ongoing allegations of land grabbing and improper allocations in the FCT under Wike’s tenure.

Wike, accompanied by FCT officials, attempted to access the site—reportedly for inspection or potential enforcement actions related to land use.

However, soldiers stationed there blocked their entry, leading to a heated exchange.

The soldiers were allegedly acting on orders from a senior military officer to protect the property, which they claimed was legally acquired.

In the video footage, Wike challenges the soldiers’ authority and demands documentation proving ownership or rights to the land.

He accuses them of intimidation and impunity, stating things like: “Show me the document. You have no document,” and “You cannot be carrying a gun to intimidate people to not do their work.”

He further escalates by saying, “You could have killed everybody here. No problem. I’m not one of those that they can intimidate,” after referencing a phone call with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) that de-escalated the situation.

A key moment involves a military officer confronting Wike directly, asserting his position and adherence to protocol. The officer declares, “I’m an officer. I’m acting on orders,” while denying any intent to intimidate, saying, “We are not intimidating anybody,” and insisting, “Everything was acquired legally.”

The exchange is chaotic, with overlapping arguments, gestures, and accusations of corruption or incompetence on both sides.

No physical violence occurred, but the standoff highlights friction between civilian government authority and military directives.
