Ogun: Soldiers drag patient off hospital bed, stab him to death, shoot one other
Soldiers believed to have been from Ikeja Cantonment but posted to Kara Market along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway have been accused of dragging a patient out of a medical facility in Ogun State before stabbing him to death on Tuesday.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a release made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, revealed that one Damilare Adelani had earlier been killed by the same soldiers during the annual Isheri Day festival.
The PPRO said the officers, numbering four in number, had abandoned their beat for Isheri Olofin, a border town between Lagos and Ogun State, where they had a minor disagreement with some youths celebrating the festival.
According to the statement, Adelani was hit by a bullet and died on the spot while three other civilians and a soldier were also injured in the process.
The officers were reported to have quickly rushed their injured colleague to a private hospital (name withheld), where they met the only doctor on duty attending to one of the civilians injured during the melee with military men.
The doctor, it was alleged, was ordered to leave the patient and attend to their colleague at gunpoint after which the victim was dragged out of the hospital bed and stabbed to death.
