House of Reps move to address agitations in the country

Following the tension generated by agitation in the country, the House of Representatives has resolved revisit the issue of devolution of power bill on resumption of plenary.

The green chamber also plans to strengthen the unity of the country by assigning a high power committee to go round the country to interact with stakeholder across the six geo-political zones of the .

The House arrived at these resolutions following a motion which was moved by House majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila under matters of urgent public importance.

Gbajabiamila in the motion called on the House to as a matter of urgency and constitutional responsibility move to halt what he described as “a burning fire‎” which is threatening the existence of Nigeria. ‎

He said: ”Mr. Speaker, these issues regarding agitations were all over the place, from the East, the West, the North and South. And we have as a responsibility to speak with one voice as a House and bring healing and reconciliation to our dear country.

So I ask, are we going to play the ostrich and act as if nothing is wrong? We have swore to protect the unity and ensure the progress of this country and that we should be seen to be doing; and like it was said, the task of keeping this nation one is a task that must be done.” ‎
