El-Zakzaky followers warns police, Kano State Govt not interrupt their symbolic trek

The Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has appealed to the police and Kano government not to interrupt in the 2018 Arbaen symbolic trek to mark the mausoleum of Imam Husain which will commence on Thursday.

Addressing Reporters at the Kano NUJ press centre, spokesman of the group, Dr. Dauda Nalado, said that the movement is not violent as being perceived by the government and security operatives, adding that, “we are law abiding citizens carrying out the symbolic trek in fulfilment of our religious duty.”

According to him, “any attempt by state apparatus to halt or attack the movement is illegal, discriminatory and gross violation of our fundamental human rights.”

Dr. Nalado stated that, “though we have held two meetings with the police in Kano to notify them of our intention to embark of the annual symbolic trek, but by law, we need not to seek their permission because their primary duty is to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

He further stated that, “it is worthy of note here that all these atrocities and many more nationwide carried out by the state against its citizens  were a follow up to the December 2015 Zaria massacre carried out by Nigerian Army under the command and personal supervision of President Buhari.”

Dr. Nalado also called for the immediate release of Sheikh El-Zakzaky, his wife and other members of the group who have been in detention for several months.
