Egba Bloc Football Team have emerged winner of the 2019 Gateway Teachers Football Championship concluded on Saturday at the MKO Abiola International stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The football event was organised to commemorate the 2019 World Teachers Day, themed ‘Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession’, and it featured football teams from Egba, Ijebu, Yewa, and Remo Bloc respectively.
At the thrilling football final watched by over five thousand teachers, government officials and other crowds, Egba Bloc defeated Ijebu Bloc Football Team 4/2 to lift the trophy. Yewa and Remo carted home the collective bronze medals.
Captained by Shodiya Adekunke Samsideen, the team was able to avenge the defeat suffered in the hands of Ijebu Team at the last year edition at the same venue.
Speaking after guiding his team to victory, Shodiya was full praises to the Almighty God for the victory. “We are happy to win this year edition and we give all the glory to the Almighty God, because they defeated us at the last year edition.
“So, this year, we really prepared for them that we are going to beat them, and God did it for us. We want to continue the winning ways next year, and to gather ourselves for training at all times as well as to be fit for any event.
We pray to God to give us the strength to continuing winning. Dedication, perseverance and endurance were the keys to our victory this year, we are happy to have the trophy in our care this year.”
